Lynchburg-Clay is 9-1 against Fayetteville-Perry since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs will look to defend their home court against the Fayetteville-Perry Rockets at 7:30 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Lynchburg-Clay has not done well against Eastern recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Lynchburg-Clay blew past Eastern 53-24 at home. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Lynchburg-Clay.
Lynchburg-Clay's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Addison West led the charge by scoring 16 points along with five rebounds. The game was West's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jade Massey, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Fayetteville-Perry made easy work of Williamsburg on Thursday and carried off a 57-33 win.
Fayetteville-Perry can attribute much of their success to Lilly Carlier, who scored ten points along with five rebounds, and Cara Rummel, who scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Carlier has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Lilee Coffman, who scored seven points along with three blocks.
Lynchburg-Clay pushed their record up to 4-2 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.7 points per game. As for Fayetteville-Perry, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's match: Lynchburg-Clay have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5 threes per game. It's a different story for Fayetteville-Perry, though, as they've been averaging only 3.3 threes per game. Given Lynchburg-Clay's sizeable advantage in that area, Fayetteville-Perry will need to find a way to close that gap.
Lynchburg-Clay didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Fayetteville-Perry in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 64-60 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Fayetteville-Perry's Anne Murphy, who dropped a triple-double on 21 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals.
