Hedgesville hasn't had much luck against Washington recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Eagles will take on the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Hedgesville came out on top against Martinsburg on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run fourth inning. The Eagles put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 17-9 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
Brynna Hamlin was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Lexie Brown was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Hedgesville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are 6-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Washington never let their opponents score on Monday. Everything went their way against Musselman as they made off with a 14-0 victory. Considering the Patriots have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Mckenzie O'Hara made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Washington got a massive performance out of Zoe Kesterson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Carly Constantino also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Washington's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Hedgesville, the win got them back to even at 10-10-1.
Both Hedgesville and Washington just can't seem to miss. The Eagles have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Washington struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hedgesville suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Washington when the teams last played back in March. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
