East Sequoia recap October 29, 2013
Lindsay moved up to 358 from 444 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in East Sequoia. The Cardinals were able to move up by topping Woodlake 28-0.
Granite Hills and Sierra Pacific played the most contested game in the league this week, with Granite Hills eventually emerging with a 26-20 victory. Johnny Gonzalez ran for 128 yards during the win.
Alex Jara threw for 168 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 12-20 with 0 interceptions.
Gerardo Acevedo was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Grizzlies topped the Golden Bears. The 5-foot-10 senior pulled down 2 interceptions.
Nicholas Moreno provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Sierra Pacific fell to Granite Hills. He completed 17 passes for 181 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 9 yards. Moreno's key target this week was Matthew Leslie, who caught 7 passes for 91 yards.
Leslie was the best receiver in the league this week as Allen Blanchard's team lost to Marc Salazar's team. Leslie tallied 7 receptions for 91 yards. Lorenzo Anzoleaga helped Sierra Pacific's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 47 yards.
Lindsay's Jara and Gaven Mann have formed a dream team this season, leading East Sequoia in both passing and receiving yards. Jara has thrown for 1,979 yards this season, while Mann has 50 catches for 952 yards. Elijah Cunningham from the Tigers leads the league in rushing with 1,141 yards.
Entering into this week's contest against Corcoran, Jara is short just 21 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
The Cardinals' Mann is only 48 receiving yards away from breaking 1,000 receiving yards this season as he enters this week's game against the the Panthers. He has recorded 50 catches for 952 yards this year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Corcoran takes on Lindsay. Rich Lane's team is currently in fourth, while the Cardinals are in first.
Woodlake lost to Lindsay 28-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
