The Monroe Golden Tornadoes entered their tilt with the Lee County Trojans with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Monroe walked away with a 62-50 win over Lee County on Friday. Given Monroe's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while Lee County is ranked 361st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Monroe to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kie'Aundria Acree, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 10 rebounds. The contest was Acree's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ciarra Lunsford, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Monroe is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Lee County, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monroe will take on Westover at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Westover is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Lee County, they will be playing at home against Sumter County at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sumter County and Lee County are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
