After flying high against the Pueblo Centennial Bulldogs last Wednesday, the Manitou Springs Mustangs came back down to earth. Manitou Springs suffered a rough 55-29 defeat at the hands of Salida on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Manitou Springs has suffered since November 29, 2023.
Manitou Springs lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brooklynn Sheffield, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Tori Greene, who scored seven points along with six steals.
Manitou Springs struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Salida racked up 14 assists.
Salida found their leader in underclassman Braeden Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Graysa Kindle was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 13 rebounds and two blocks.
Manitou Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Salida, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Manitou Springs will take on St. Mary's at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully St. Mary's focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Tuesday. As for Salida, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Colorado Springs Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Colorado Springs Christian is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
