Decatur has gone a perfect 10-0 against Parkside recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Seahawks will host the Rams at 4:00 p.m. Decatur is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Decatur is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Delmar, who was ranked sixth in their home state at the time (Decatur was ranked 17th). The Seahawks fell 3-0 to the Wildcats on Monday. The Seahawks were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matchups prior), but the Wildcats' pitcher proved too tough.
Decatur saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Donoway, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, while Parkside put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Wicomico. The Rams put the hurt on the Tribe-Wi-Hi with a sharp 20-0 win. Considering the Rams have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Brecklyn Bounds made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julia Bright, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Cheyenne Cantwell, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.
The victory got Parkside back to even at 7-7-1. As for Decatur, they moved to 10-3 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
Parkside's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Decatur has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Parkside, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 strikeouts. Will Decatur keep running through batters, or will the Rams buck the trend?
Everything went Decatur's way against Parkside when the teams last played back in March, as Decatur made off with a 15-1 win. Do the Seahawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
