Maximus Stewart made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for John Paul the Great Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, John Paul the Great Academy got a massive performance out of Luke Salvatierra, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave Salvatierra a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Jonah Petitt, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
John Paul the Great Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Acadiana Christian never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over First Baptist Christian. The victory was familiar territory for the Lions, who have now won five matches in a row.
Wes Landry was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Acadiana Christian let Lane Parks and Isaiah Burch run wild. Parks went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Burch scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Parks is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Jaxon Oliver was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1.
Acadiana Christian pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for John Paul the Great Academy, their record is now 5-3.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. John Paul the Great Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .558. However, it's not like Acadiana Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .587. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
John Paul the Great Academy suffered a grim 20-2 defeat to Acadiana Christian in their previous matchup back in February. Can John Paul the Great Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
