Sandia put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Catalina Foothills Falcons 76-36. The Matadors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 22 points or more this season.
Sandia's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sydney Benally, who went 10 of 17 en route to 22 points along with seven boards and four steals. Benally is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaiyah Benally, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 14 points along with seven steals and five assists.
Sandia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Catalina Foothills only pulled down 11 offensive boards.
Despite the loss, Catalina Foothills saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kayanna Chief went 5 of 8 on her way to 13 points and three steals. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for Chief. The team also got some help courtesy of Clara Mae Hager, who posted 12 points.
