The Abbeville Christian Academy Generals will venture away from home to face off against the Chipley Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Abbeville Christian Academy knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Chipley likes a good challenge.
Abbeville Christian Academy's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Tuesday. They didn't even let Poplar Springs on the board, marking the Generals' second-straight 19-0 shutout.
Hope Kennedy and Annston Braddy were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Kennedy pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Braddy struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Kennedy went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Braddy got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Lizzy Stewart was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Those stolen bases were her first of the season. Cassie Braddy was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4.
Abbeville Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .654. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Chipley made easy work of Ponce De Leon on Tuesday and carried off an 8-2 win. Considering the Tigers have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Olivia Brown was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March.
Chipley's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Abbeville Christian Academy, their record now sits at 2-3.
Monday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Abbeville Christian Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .622. However, it's not like Chipley struggles in that department as they've averaged .474. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
