Baseball Recap: Canton Comes Up Short

Canton lost against Richwoods back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Little Giants fell just short of the Knights by a score of 6-5. The Little Giants just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.

Brody Ketcham was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. He is becoming a predictor of Canton's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 3-9 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Miles Hoops was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. Dane Grzanich was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Canton's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Richwoods, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Canton will challenge Bushnell-Prairie City at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Little Giants are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on a 19-game losing streak. As for Richwoods, they will face off against Peoria Notre Dame at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
