On Tuesday, the Pickens Blue Flame faced the Greenwood Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Pickens had just enough and edged Greenwood out 38-36. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Pickens has posted yet this season.
Pickens was led to victory by Ava Owens and Maggie Chambers. Owens scored 13 points along with six steals, while Chambers dropped a double-double on 15 points and 17 rebounds. Owens is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Sadie Claire mckinney, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Greenwood saw an underclassman step up: Danielle Oliver scored 21 points along with four steals. Oliver is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games she's played. Cameron Oliver was another key contributor, scoring five points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Pickens pushed their record up to 14-2 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Greenwood, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-1.
Pickens will be playing in front of their home fans against Easley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Easley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Tuesday. As for Greenwood, they will head out on the road to face off against Berea at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Berea is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
