The Mountlake Terrace Hawks will take on the Shorewood Stormrays at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Mountlake Terrace is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
Mountlake Terrace is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They fell 12-7 to Stanwood. That's two games in a row now that the Hawks have lost by exactly five runs.
Charlotte Snook put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Hailey Taron was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Shorewood was able to grind out a solid win over Meadowdale on Wednesday, taking the game 8-3.
Like Mountlake Terrace, Shorewood also got a great game from a two-way player: Ellie Van Horn. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Van Horn was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Shorewood got a massive performance out of Maddie Schilperoort, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Schilperoort has posted since back in March. Emma Kellum was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
Shorewood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Meadowdale only posted a batting average of .286.
Shorewood's victory bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Mountlake Terrace, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mountlake Terrace has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .471. However, it's not like Shorewood struggles in that department as they've averaged .447. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mountlake Terrace came out on top in a nail-biter against Shorewood when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Stormrays have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
