Even though Greenville Tech Charter has not done well against Greer Middle College recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Greenville Tech Charter narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Greer Middle College 25-22. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Greenville Tech Charter has posted yet this season.
Greenville Tech Charter found their leader in underclassman Sophie Chasteen, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Chasteen pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Josey Stefanik, who scored five points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Blacksburg came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Chesnee 63-25 on the road. Given Blacksburg's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Chesnee is ranked 248th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Greenville Tech Charter's victory bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Blacksburg, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season.
Greenville Tech Charter might still be hurting after the 52-31 loss they got from Blacksburg in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Greenville Tech Charter avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
