Two dominant signal callers in Zuric Humes and Brennan Myer are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mansfield Timberview Wolves will square off against the Wakeland Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Mansfield Timberview can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Adams 55-0 at home. Given Mansfield Timberview's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 174th, while Adams is ranked 970th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Humes had an outrageously good game as he threw for 276 yards and four touchdowns while completing 90.9% of his passes, and also punched in a rushing score. Another player making a difference was Cameron Bates, who picked up 141 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Adams to a paltry 112 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Mansfield Timberview's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out three times before it was all said and done. In that department, Caden Bates was the leader with two sacks.
Meanwhile, Wakeland entered their tilt with Frisco with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Wakeland took down Frisco 42-24 on Friday.
Mansfield Timberview pushed their record up to 9-1 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 47.8 points. As for Wakeland, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as Mansfield Timberview and Wakeland haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Mansfield Timberview commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 6.5 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Wakeland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.7 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
