The Winter Haven Blue Devils waltzed into Friday's contest with four straight wins but they left with five. They blew past Auburndale 34-13. Winter Haven might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won five contests by 21 points or more this season.
Winter Haven's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but John Kostuch led the charge by throwing for 190 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 passes. Another player making a difference was Alfred Smothers, who rushed for 157 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.2 yards per carry.
Several Bloodhounds players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jason Mcgough jr, who picked up 98 receiving yards and a touchdown. Jaysean Pritchard was another key contributor, gaining 84 total yards and a touchdown.
Winter Haven's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Auburndale, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-4.
Winter Haven will look to defend their home field on Friday against Bartow at 7:30 p.m. Bartow comes in on a streak of failing to score more than seven points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Auburndale is on the road again on Friday and play against Leesburg at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Leesburg will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
