The Whitman-Hanson Regional Panthers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They blew past Marathon 71-50. Given Whitman-Hanson Regional's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 153rd in Massachusetts, while Marathon is ranked 640th in Florida), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marathon lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being DAESHAWN HOLMES, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. HOLMES has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of ADRIAN CRUZ, who scored 20 points.
Whitman-Hanson Regional now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Marathon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whitman-Hanson Regional will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Duxbury at 6:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024. As for Marathon, they will head out on the road to face off against Key West at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Key West focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday.
