The Palmview Lobos will head out on the road to face off against the United South Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Palmview had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 84-38 victory over Economedes. Given Palmview's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 486th, while Economedes is ranked 1210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Palmview's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Adrian Ibarra, who scored 18 points along with eight assists and three steals, and Joe Gonzalez, who scored 26 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Gonzalez has scored at least 25% of Palmview's points. Another player making a difference was Leonardo Rivero, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, United South entered their tilt with Weslaco with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. United South blew past Weslaco 86-44 at home.
Palmview is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for United South, their win bumped their record up to 13-6.
Palmview came up short against United South in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, falling 46-39. Can Palmview avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
