Softball Game Preview: Etiwanda Eagles vs. Upland Highlanders/Scots

Etiwanda and Upland are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2020, but likely not for long. The Eagles will face off against the Highlanders/Scots at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Friday, Etiwanda made easy work of Rancho Cucamonga and carried off an 11-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won four in a row.

Etiwanda let Brianna Gutierrez and Dailynn Battee run wild. Gutierrez went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Battee went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave Gutierrez a new career-high. Alyssa Galindo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Etiwanda lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Upland entered their tilt with Los Osos on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Grizzlies get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory.

Etiwanda's win was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Upland, their win bumped their record up to 16-5.

Etiwanda skirted past Upland 7-6 when the teams last played two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
