Baseball Recap: Rio Hondo Has No Trouble Against Progreso

Rio Hondo came out on top against Progreso on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fourth inning. The Bobcats blew past the Red Ants 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won 13 matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Adrian Betancourt spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ruben Castellanos was incredible, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Juan Padilla, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Rio Hondo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Progreso only posted an OBP of .222.

The win made it two in a row for Rio Hondo and bumps their season record up to 16-10. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Progreso, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-9.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Rio Hondo will face off against rival Raymondville at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Progreso is set to take on their familiar foe Santa Rosa at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
