Douglas County is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Monday. They will head out to square off against the Chaparral Wolverines at 4:15 p.m. Douglas County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Douglas County easily dispatched Lewis-Palmer two weeks ago, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Huskies fell just short of Rocky Mountain by a score of 5-3 last Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Huskies have suffered since April 21, 2025.
Evan Clarke was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off six hits.
At the plate, Douglas County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jeremiah Morey, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chaparral). They blew past Bear Creek 19-1 on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Tommy Humphrey looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Kayne Morris was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madden Kretzer, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Chaparral always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Chaparral is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Douglas County, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-4.
Both Douglas County and Chaparral just can't seem to miss. The Huskies have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Chaparral struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Douglas County suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Chaparral when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
