After losing to the Hernando Leopards the last time they met, the Springstead Eagles decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Springstead walked away with a 56-47 win over Hernando on Friday.
Leading Springstead to victory were Zion McKenzie and Austin Nicholson. McKenzie scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while Nicholson scored 16 points along with five assists and four steals. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Cordero, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds.
Springstead now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Hernando, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Springstead will challenge Crystal River at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hernando, they will head out on the road to face off against Pasco at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Pasco is out to stop a five-game streak of losses at home.
