This season hasn't been kind to the Houlka Wildcats, who are still winless after their 16th game. They were dealt a 60-25 defeat at the hands of Vardaman on Saturday. Houlka has not had much luck with Vardaman recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Despite the loss, Houlka had strong showings from Olivia Halford, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds, and Madison Martin, who scored two points along with five rebounds. That was a full 56% of Houlka's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Houlka struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-3) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Kamri Jones was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds for Vardaman. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Jones has scored at least a third of Vardaman's points. Addie Lucius was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three blocks and two steals.
Houlka's defeat dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Vardaman, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-12.
The two teams will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Vardaman is hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. As for they, they will head out on the road to challenge Houlka at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Houlka focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Saturday.
