It was a good run, but the Weddington Warriors unfortunately witnessed the end of their 11-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell to The Burlington School 69-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the loss, Weddington still got an impressive performance from Grant Hamilton, who scored 30 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Hamilton scored a full 47.6% of Weddington's points, the ninth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. KJ Younger was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Weddington were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as The Burlington School only pulled down three offensive rebounds.
Zion Walker continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for The Burlington School, scoring 25 points. The game was Walker's 19th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was King Gibson, who scored 12 points.
Weddington's defeat dropped their record down to 11-1. As for The Burlington School, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-5.
Weddington will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Kings Mountain at 8:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Kings Mountain has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 410 points over their last six matchups. The Burlington School and Southern Durham will face off at 11:00 a.m. on December 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
