The Purvis Tornadoes were the 61-60 winner over the Lawrence County Cougars when they last played one another on January 12th, but their luck changed this time around. Purvis received a tough blow on Tuesday as they fell 72-56 to the Cougars. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
When it comes to explaining why Purvis lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jacoby Robinson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 41.1% of Purvis' points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Tashaun Gray, who scored six points along with four steals.
Purvis has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-6 record this season. As for Lawrence County, their victory bumped their record up to 10-15.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Purvis will take on the Aggies at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Forrest County Agricultural is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Lawrence County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Mississippi (Columbia is ranked 201st, while the Cougars are ranked 177th).
