Baseball Recap: Higley Extends Winning Streak to Three

Higley extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 15-9 in the process. They came out on top against the Gilbert Tigers by a score of 8-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-5 on Monday.

Bryce Russo looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Blake Daly was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Nate Kimmel, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

As for Gilbert, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games.

On Gilbert's side, Johhny King was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.

On the hitting side, Gilbert saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Carlin, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Higley will face off against Williams Field at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gilbert, they will square off against Dobson at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
