Two dominant backs in Jonah Ganoe and Kamden Fragale are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Smethport Hubbers will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Cameron County Raiders at 7:00 p.m. Smethport will be strutting in after a win while Cameron County will be coming in after a loss.
Smethport took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 52-6 victory over Otto-Eldred/Oswayo Valley. The matchup marked the Hubbers' most dominant win of the season.
Smethport's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jude Kisko, who rushed for 187 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Kisko also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up two sacks and making seven total tackles. Mason Swanson was another key signal caller, throwing for 56 yards and a pair of TDs on only five passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Smethport was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 431 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Another reason for the win was Smethport's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Kisko was especially locked on to Otto-Eldred/Oswayo Valley's QB and sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 35 points the game before, Cameron County was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They fell 23-12 to Brookville. While Cameron County didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating Brookville 6-0 in the first quarter.
Although Cameron County took the loss, they still got scores from Malakai Zucal and Fragale.
Cameron County's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Smethport, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Smethport has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 211.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Cameron County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 192.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Smethport ended up a good deal behind Cameron County in their previous meeting back in September, losing 38-22. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Fragale, who rushed for 149 yards and two scores on only eight carries. Now that the Hubbers know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
