Gibbon is 0-10 against Centura since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Gibbon Buffaloes will head out on the road to challenge the Centura Centurions at 6:15 p.m. Gibbon is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
Gibbon suffered their biggest loss since December 12, 2023 on Monday. They had to suffer through a rough 56-21 loss at the hands of Blue Hill. Gibbon found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 18 to 5 on offense.
Carla Murillo-Corona was Gibbon's leading scorer, having posted seven points.
Claire Clark held things down on the boards with eight rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Centura posted their biggest win since December 12, 2023 on Tuesday. They blew past Doniphan-Trumbull 46-26. Centura has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 20 points or more this season.
Centura relied on the efforts of Kyra Wooden, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds and five assists, and Kennedy Davis, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and four steals. Wooden is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Carlie Sokol was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
Gibbon's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Centura, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Gibbon have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 22 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Centura, though, as they've been averaging only 25.7 rebounds per game. Given Gibbon's sizeable advantage in that area, Centura will need to find a way to close that gap.
Gibbon was taken down by Centura 58-13 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Gibbon was down 37-7.
