Volleyball Game Preview: Southridge Raiders vs. Jasper Wildcats

Southridge is 0-10 against Jasper since September of 2017 but things could change on Saturday. The Raiders will face off against the Wildcats at 10:00 a.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Southridge took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Thursday. They came out on top against Northeast Dubois by a score of 3-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Southridge had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-14, 25-11, 25-22.

Southridge relied on the efforts of Kenley Ferguson, who had 20 digs and three aces, and Addyson Rainey, who had 11 digs. That's the most digs Rainey has posted since back in September.

Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Jasper had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over Gibson Southern on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won nine in a row.

Southridge better keep an eye on Nora Breitwieser. She was instrumental in Jasper's win, getting 23 digs and three aces. Breitwieser has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more digs the last three times she's played. Stella Knies also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

Jasper's victory bumped their record up to 21-11. As for Southridge, the win got them back to even at 14-14.

Southridge suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Jasper in their previous meeting back in September. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
