The Brimfield Indians will square off against the Kewanee Boilermakers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Brimfield is coming into the match hot, having won their last 15 games.
Kewanee's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Wednesday: Brimfield hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Indians' pitcher stepped up to hand Farmington a 5-0 shutout on Tuesday.
Not much got past Schyer Meinders, who gave up just six hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Farmington off the board. Meinders has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Reese Legaspi was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.
Meanwhile, Kewanee was able to grind out a solid win over Newman Central Catholic on Monday, taking the game 6-3. The Boilermakers haven't had any issues with the Comets recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Kalleigh Gale spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits and racked up 13 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kieryn Abernathy, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Blades, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Kewanee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newman Central Catholic only posted an OBP of .333.
Brimfield pushed their record up to 24-2 with the win, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Kewanee, their win bumped their record up to 15-11.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Brimfield has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. However, it's not like Kewanee struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Brimfield took their victory against Kewanee in their previous matchup back in May of 2018 by a conclusive 11-0 score. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Boilermakers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
