Softball Recap: Clear Fork Takes Down Shelby in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Clear Fork rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Shelby Whippets. Considering the Colts have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Katrina Rogers and Hailly Thrush did most of the damage at the plate: Rogers went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Thrush went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs Thrush has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Kylie Ludwig, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Clear Fork is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Shelby, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-11 record this season.

Clear Fork will take on Lexington in a tournament on Thursday. The Minutemen's pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so the Colts' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Shelby does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
