With a playoff game on the line, the York Institute Dragons rose to the challenge on Friday. They claimed a resounding 56-13 win over Hampton on the road. The win was just business as usual for York Institute, who after 13 games remain undefeated this season.
York Institute's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Riylin Miller led the charge by rushing for 116 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries, while also picking up 101 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Miller's longest reception was for an incredible 73 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Myles Leffew, who threw for 177 yards and three touchdowns on only eight passes.
York Institute pushed their record up to 13-0 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 11-2 Friendship Christian and 9-3 Bledsoe County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 61.6% over those games). As for Hampton, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-3.
York Institute will take on East Robertson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. East Robertson is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Hampton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
