Luke Kelly made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2025. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Braxton County got a massive performance out of Owen Lowther, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those four runs gave Lowther a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Landon Mays, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Braxton County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .532. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Grafton hadn't done well against University recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Bearcats put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 15-7 victory. Considering the Bearcats have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
JW Nestor was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Wilfong, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Grafton is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Braxton County, the victory was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 2-19.
Braxton County couldn't quite get it done against Grafton in their previous meeting back in March of 2025 as they fell 5-0. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
