Vision extended their losing streak to 11 on Monday, dropping them down to 1-14. They came up short against the New Plymouth Pilgrims, falling 16-5. That's two games in a row now that Vision has lost by exactly 11 runs.
Payton Williams was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kannon Koberlein, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for New Plymouth, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-13. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.
On New Plymouth's side, Blayk Cockerum made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, Cockerum posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was even better at the plate, firing off three home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of New Plymouth's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 6-13 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Ashton Robinson and Cooper Shaw did most of the damage at the plate: Robinson went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while Shaw went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Shaw has posted since back in March. Eli Meckert was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
While Vision had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
