The New Smyrna Beach Barracudas won the last time they faced the Space Coast Vipers, and things went their way on Wednesday too. New Smyrna Beach secured a 44-40 W over Space Coast. The victory made it back-to-back wins for New Smyrna Beach.
New Smyrna Beach's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Paris Thompson led the charge by scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Thompson continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hailee Mokwe, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Despite the defeat, Space Coast saw an underclassman step up: Phillayjah Carroll scored 18 points. Carroll is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. Lashiya Walker was another key contributor, scoring six points.
New Smyrna Beach has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for Space Coast, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.
New Smyrna Beach will head out on the road to take on Pine Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pine Ridge will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 529th, while New Smyrna Beach is ranked 187th). As for Space Coast, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Rockledge at 7:00 p.m. on January 11th. Hopefully Rockledge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 last Monday.
