Basketball Recap: South Bend Adams Takes a Loss

If South Bend Adams was feeling good fresh off their 78-41 takedown of Mishawaka last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The South Bend Adams Eagles took a 65-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mishawaka Marian Knights on Friday. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Knights from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why South Bend Adams lost, don't look at Jarvis Tolbert. Despite the final result, he went 9-for-18 en route to 24 points and eight boards. The game was Tolbert's third in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalen Allen, who went 5-for-7 on his way to 11 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, South Bend Adams smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Mishawaka Marian was led to victory by Prescott Horvath and William Owens. Horvath dropped a double-double with 28 points and 14 rebounds, while Owens almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine boards. Horvath is becoming a predictor of Mishawaka Marian's success: when he posts at least 15 points the team is 7-2 (and 6-7 when he doesn't). Joaquin Wilson was another key player, putting up six points.

South Bend Adams' loss dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Mishawaka Marian, their record is now 13-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. South Bend Adams is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.4 points per game this season. As for Mishawaka Marian, they will be playing at home against La Porte at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mishawaka Marian also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 57.5 points per game.
