The White County Warriors will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Pickens Dragons at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
White County fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Lumpkin County on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Indians 61-55. Despite running the score up even higher than they did two weeks ago (38), White County still had to take the loss.
White County's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Tripp Nix, who threw for 166 yards and five touchdowns, and Ryan Fowler who rushed for 247 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Fowler's longest rush was for an incredible 82 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Gaines Clark, who picked up 33 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Pickens' six-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They put the hurt on West Hall with a sharp 35-12 win.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pickens to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sam Streicher, who rushed for eight yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 230 yards and a touchdown while completing 87.5% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Miguel Salto, who rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns.
Lumpkin County's victory bumped their season record to 8-0 while White County's loss dropped theirs to 4-4.
White County might still be hurting after the 48-28 defeat they got from Pickens in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Will White County have more luck at home instead of on the road?
