Deer Trail is 0-4 against the Longhorns since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Deer Trail Eagles will look to defend their home court against the Lone Star Longhorns at 3:00 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant against one another: Ally Hardwick and Aleighcea Kuntz.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 73-26, which was the final score in Deer Trail's tilt against the Eagles on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Deer Trail can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while the Eagles are ranked 20th).
Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 17 to 4 on the offensive boards, a fact Lone Star proved on Friday. They blew past Belleview Christian 51-19 on the road. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-9.
Lone Star's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amanda Kubitz, who scored five points along with 11 rebounds and eight steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Peytyn Kuntz, who scored 11 points along with four steals.
Deer Trail's defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Lone Star, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-7.
Deer Trail couldn't quite finish off the Longhorns in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 and fell 35-32. Will Deer Trail have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
