The Ionia Bulldogs were the 53-29 winner over the Charlotte Orioles when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Ionia was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 57-56 to Charlotte. Ionia has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Charlotte's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaelyn Baker led the charge by scoring 15 points along with seven assists and six steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Baker has scored at least 25% of Charlotte's points. Peyton Howarth was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Ionia now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Charlotte, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ionia will challenge Sexton at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Sexton is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. As for Charlotte, they will head out on the road to face off against Olivet at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
