Softball Recap: Vanguard Has No Trouble Against the Villages Charter

Vanguard barely beat The Villages Charter the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Knights put the hurt on the Buffalo with a sharp 8-1 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Knights have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Hannah Davis and Destiny Horcajo made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Davis struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Meanwhile, Horcajo tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Davis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Davis scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Horcajo scored a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Davis has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Vanguard let Alivia Vance and Jaelynn Whipple run wild. Vance went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while Whipple scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. Whipple has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Tori Jackson also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Vanguard has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for The Villages Charter, they dropped their record down to 9-8 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vanguard will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Trinity Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on the 21st. As for The Villages Charter, they will square off against Lake Minneola at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
