The Spring Lions pushed their score all the way to 56 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Westfield on the road by a decisive 74-56 margin. While losing is never fun, Spring can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 297th, while the Mustangs are ranked 129th).
When it comes to explaining why Spring lost, one person who can't be blamed is Darrell Payton. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Payton has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylan Tran, who scored 11 points.
Spring's loss dropped their record down to 15-14. As for Westfield, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spring will take on the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Nimitz is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for Westfield, they will be playing at home against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
