Doral Academy is on a 21-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Wellington is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Firebirds will welcome the Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Doral Academy 1.1, Wellington 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Doral Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Florida's top teams: Coral Reef, who was ranked 18th at the time (Doral Academy was ranked first). The Firebirds never let the Barracudas get on the board and left with an 11-0 win on Wednesday. The Firebirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Meagan Villazon made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. In other pitching news, Doral Academy got a great performance from Camila Diaz as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over 4.1 innings pitched. Diaz has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Sarah Breaux, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Zoey Abdullah was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Doral Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coral Reef only posted a batting average of .143.

Erryn Lowe was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gabby D'Arcangelo, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Doral Academy hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Wellington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Doral Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Wellington in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 5-1. Do the Firebirds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolverines turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
