Calvary Christian has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Villa Madonna Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, Calvary Christian beat the Eagles by the very same score they won with last week: 39-38. Given Calvary Christian's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 269th in Kentucky, while the Eagles are ranked 693rd in Ohio), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Villa Madonna blew past the Saints, posting a 66-26 victory on the road. That looming 66-26 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Villa Madonna yet this season.
Villa Madonna's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Henry Thole, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Quinn Thomas, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Calvary Christian pushed their record up to 8-17 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Villa Madonna's record is now 9-12.
Calvary Christian lost to the Vikings on the road by a decisive 53-34 margin when the teams last played two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Thole, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 22 rebounds. Now that Calvary Christian knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
