The North Montgomery Chargin' Chargers will challenge the Clinton Prairie Gophers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Clinton Prairie will be up against a hot North Montgomery squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. Everything went the Chargin' Chargers' way against Benton Central on Friday as they made off with a 13-2 win.
Crew Cole made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. Cole was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aiden Ambriz-Cruz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Cade Cole, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
North Montgomery always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Benton Central only posted an OBP of .350.
Meanwhile, Clinton Prairie got themselves on the board against Clinton Central on Thursday, but Clinton Central never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 11-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Gophers, who have now won three matches in a row.
Cayden Robinson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Wyatt Harshbarger was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Thomas, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
North Montgomery pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Clinton Prairie, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.
North Montgomery might still be hurting after the 9-3 defeat they got from Clinton Prairie when the teams last played back in May of 2024.
