Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020-21 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Lauren Betts of
Grandview (Aurora) is the 2020-21 MaxPreps Colorado High School Basketball Player of the Year. The 6-foot-7 junior post sparked the Wolves to a 17-1 record and the Class 5A state semifinals.
Betts averaged 17.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 1.9 assists a game while shooting an incredible 80 percent from the field. Betts had nine double-doubles on the season and had five or more blocked shots four different times.
Betts is the top-rated prospect in the Class of 2022 by ESPN Hoopgurlz and has committed to play at Stanford.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team.
