Red Bud and Belleville West are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Musketeers will square off against the Maroons at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Belleville West took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Red Bud, who comes in off a win.
Red Bud barely beat Mascoutah the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Musketeers were the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over the Indians on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Musketeers in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won five in a row.
Red Bud got a great performance from Kendra Ehret as she pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. Ehret has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lilly Minemann was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Olivia Schmidt, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, Belleville West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Waltonville.
Kara Kramer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Belleville West saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Charli Coppernoll, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Addison Geluck also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Red Bud's record now sits at 12-5. As for Belleville West, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
Red Bud's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. The Musketeers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Belleville West, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Red Bud continue to outrun the ball?
Red Bud came up short against Belleville West in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 10-6. Can the Musketeers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
