The Yutan Chieftains were the 39-31 winner over the Elmwood-Murdock Knights when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Yutan fell 53-45 to Elmwood-Murdock on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Yutan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while Elmwood-Murdock is ranked fifth).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Elmwood-Murdock to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tatum Backemeyer, who scored 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney "laney" Frahm, who scored 14 points along with seven assists.
Yutan's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Elmwood-Murdock, they pushed their record up to 1-0 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.
Yutan will take on West Point-Beemer at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully West Point-Beemer focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Thursday. As for Elmwood-Murdock, they will head out on the road to face off against Louisville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
