The La Mirada Matadores pushed their score all the way to 34 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a hard 51-34 fall against Downey. La Mirada has struggled against Downey recently, as their game on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
La Mirada's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Isaiah Robbins, who picked up 181 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Martin Aguilera was in the mix as well, providing La Mirada with two touchdowns.
Oscar Rios was his usual excellent self, throwing for 285 yards and three touchdowns while completing 81.3% of his passes, and also catching a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Victor Morales, who rushed for 91 yards on only seven carries.
La Mirada has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Downey, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-2.
La Mirada does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Downey will head out on the road to face off against Capistrano Valley at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Capistrano Valley is ranked 90th, while Downey is ranked 107th).
