The Moore Catholic Mavericks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 23 points or more this season. They ended the year with a bang, routing Kennedy Catholic 63-37. Given Moore Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Kennedy Catholic is ranked 133rd), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Moore Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brianna Caliri, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Caliri has scored at least 25% of Moore Catholic's points. Another player making a difference was Emma Costanzo, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Moore Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Kennedy Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.
Moore Catholic will head out on the road to face off against Fontbonne Hall Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Kennedy Catholic, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Arlington at 5:30 p.m. Arlington comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
