Basketball Recap: Unity Christian Falls Despite Big Games from Maddy Wilbur and Emily Merema

If Unity Christian was riding high fresh off their 60-30 takedown of Galesburg Christian last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The game between the Unity Christian Knights and the Faith Christian Falcons didn't end well, with the Unity Christian Knights falling 42-28. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 47-19 back in November.

Unity Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Emily Merema, who posted nine points in addition to eight boards and five steals, and Maddy Wilbur, who had seven points and 17 rebounds. Merema has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played.

Gwen Hodson was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 17 points and nine steals for Faith Christian. Another player making a difference was Maya Gomez, who posted six points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Unity Christian's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Faith Christian, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-2.

Unity Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 56-17 win against Tri-State Christian on the 9th. As for Faith Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-14 victory against Morning Star Academy on the 6th.
