If the Osbourn Eagles were riding high off their 56-23 takedown of the Unity Reed Lions last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Osbourn took a 59-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Patriot. The contest was a 33-33 toss-up at halftime, but Osbourn was outscored by Patriot in the second.
Despite the loss, Osbourn saw an underclassman step up: Irieanna Smoot scored 26 points along with five rebounds and two steals. That was a full 48.1% of Osbourn's points, marking the 13th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Angel Boateng, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Ella Negron continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Patriot, scoring 31 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Negron has scored all season. Cheyenne Sweeney was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Osbourn has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Patriot, their win bumped their record up to 6-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Osbourn will take on Gainesville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
